Family
Apply for family reunification for children
Children under 18 can join you; the application goes to the cantonal migration authority. The deadline is usually five years — but only twelve months for children who are older than twelve at the time of the application. This shorter deadline is the one most often missed, and afterwards only important family reasons can save the application. As with a partner, suitable accommodation and sufficient means are required; in addition you must document the consent of the other parent holding custody.

Checklist
-
Obtain the children's birth certificates
Depending on the canton with an apostille and a certified translation.
-
Document custody and the other parent's consent
Court decision or certified declaration of consent; without it the cantonal authority rejects the application.
-
Determine the deadline for each child
5 years; for children over 12 only 12 months from the point the entitlement arose.
-
File the application with the cantonal migration authority
One application per child, together with proof of accommodation and financial means.
Costs
-
Permit fee not quantified
No total: the items depend on conditions and on your situation. A total without your answers would be too high or too low depending on the case — the cost calculation in your plan uses them.
