Home Guides Switzerland Notification Procedure — EU/EFTA Work

Preparation and Entry

Use the notification procedure for short-term employment

For employment of up to 90 working days per calendar year, EU/EFTA nationals only need to submit an online notification instead of applying for a permit. It runs through the notification procedure of the State Secretariat for Migration (federal) and must be filed at least one day before work starts. A late notification is not a valid one. If the assignment exceeds 90 working days, you need a short-term residence permit (permit L) instead.

Who this applies to. This guide applies if the nationality group is EU/EFTA, the employment situation in Switzerland is either Employed, Self-employed or Posted worker and the contract duration is up to 3 months.

Checklist

  1. Set up access to the notification procedure

Online notification procedure of the State Secretariat for Migration (federal); registering an account for the first time can take a few days.

  2. Notify the assignment at least 1 day before work starts

The notification must be filed before the first working day; filing it afterwards does not cure the breach.

  3. Have your identity document ready

Valid identity card or passport of an EU/EFTA state; its number is recorded in the notification.

  4. Keep the confirmation of notification

The confirmation must be produced during an inspection at the place of work.

Costs

  • Notification fee free of charge

The online notification to the State Secretariat for Migration is free of charge.

No total: the items depend on conditions and on your situation. A total without your answers would be too high or too low depending on the case — the cost calculation in your plan uses them.
